The Mediterranean resort town of Alanya offers international tourists and property investors the best of Turkey. It is a reasonable large town, with about 250,000 year round residents, and it has lots of history, with ruins and sites dating back to several centuries BC. Alanya sits on the east side of the Gulf of Antalya, some 120 kilometers from Antalya, the largest city in the region. Not far inland rise the Taurus Mountains, with peaks over 3,000 meters and plenty of skiing. The warm, dry summers and location near the mountains make the town a popular destination in summer and winter - an ideal place for anyone looking for a year-round second home or rental property in which to invest.

In ancient times the town was known as Coracesium and a favorite of pirates who roamed this part of the sea. In Roman times, the town was given as a wedding present by Antony to Cleopatra, and a natural rock formation in the water is called Cleopatra’s Bath. It was the Seljuks, in the 1200s, who built the fortress on the peninsula overlooking the town. This is one of the biggest attractions around, with its prominent Red Tower. There are many other historic sites and activities to keep you busy year round.

Today, though it is the beaches of the Mediterranean and the skiing in the mountains that draw most visitors here. Approximately 50 kilometers away is the Saklikent Ski resort in the Beydag Mountain Range. Skiing is usually good from mid December to mid April every year. There are many kilometers of beaches in Alanya and the many villages surrounding it. If you are looking for both seaside living and winter recreation, this is the perfect area.

For the Alanya property seeker, there are a myriad of options available. The large size of the town means there are many pre-existing apartments and villas available, some for as low as £30,000. The area is still growing, though and there are many off-plan properties for sale that are planned and under construction. For those who want a view, there are lots of new developments that are rising in the hills around town offering views of the sea and mountains. It won’t be hard to find the exact property for you and your family here.

Nearby Alanya are many other towns and villages with property available as well. About 20 kilometers to the west on the coast is the resort town of Avsallar. This is quickly becoming dotted with new resorts and developments and is a good place for beachfront off-plan property. To the west of Alanya are Mahmutlar and the neighboring village of Kestel. There are plenty of properties to be had here as well.

Alanya is located approximately 120 kilometers east from Antalya, the region’s main city and the fifth largest in all of Turkey.
